How We Can Help

At LivingInsights ~ Japan, we offer talk therapy counseling for English-speaking adults in Japan who are navigating the complicated parts of life. We believe growth happens when you have a safe space to lay it all on the table—no judgment, just honest conversation. Our approach is simple: meet you where you are, walk with you as you work through what’s happening, and equip you with practical tools to navigate life with greater clarity, confidence, and intention.

Our clients are often high-functioning adults who are doing well on the outside but may be struggling with what’s happening underneath. Maybe you’re facing relationship tension, work or academic stress, a major life transition, difficult decisions, burnout, or simply a sense that something needs to change. You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from counseling.

We don’t promise quick fixes, but we do offer steady, thoughtful support grounded in real-world strategies and deep respect for your story. Our counselors practice according to the highest standards of professional ethics, including the guidelines of the American Counseling Association, with confidentiality, integrity, and care at the center of the counseling relationship.

Whether you’re working through a personal challenge, navigating a relationship, managing the demands of a high-stress environment, or trying to figure out what comes next, we’re here to help you get unstuck, gain perspective, and move forward in a way that makes sense for your life.

Employee & Student Assistance Counseling (E-SAC)

Our Executive-Employee-Student Assistance Counseling (EE-SAC) is designed for people who know what it means to carry a lot—whether you’re working in a corporate environment, building a start-up, serving at an embassy, navigating college or university life, or working on a military installation. We provide a confidential space for students, professionals, leaders, entrepreneurs, military personnel, and government employees to step back, sort through what’s weighing on them, and find a practical way forward.

EE-SAC provides voluntary, confidential support that may include screenings, assessments, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. Our focus is practical and person-centered: helping you manage stress, navigate relationships, work through personal or emotional challenges, and make sense of major life transitions—whether the pressure is coming from work, school, relationships, or life outside of them.

You don’t have to be in crisis to reach out. Sometimes you’re simply stretched thin, stuck in a difficult situation, or realizing that the way you’ve been managing things isn’t working anymore.

Bottom line? EE-SAC gives you a place to reset, gain perspective, build practical coping skills, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence—while supporting the well-being of the people who keep organizations, schools, and communities moving.

Individual Counseling

We offer individual therapy for adults navigating the challenges, transitions, and unexpected turns of life. Whether you’re experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, burnout, or simply feeling overwhelmed by everything on your plate, therapy provides a space to slow down, gain perspective, and work through what’s next.

Our approach is practical, collaborative, and grounded in your goals. Together, we’ll identify what’s getting in the way, build strategies that work in your real life, and strengthen the skills you need to manage stress, navigate challenges, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

You don’t have to wait until things fall apart to seek support. Sometimes, therapy is simply a place to pause, reset, and find your center again.

Workplace/Family/Relational Mediation Counseling

Sometimes relationships can feel like you’re putting in the effort but still ending up stuck in the same place. Our relational mediation counseling provides a supportive, neutral space to help you and the important people in your life communicate more openly, understand one another more clearly, and work through conflict constructively.

Whether you’re navigating challenges with a spouse or partner, child, sibling, family member, business partner, colleague, or friend, we help you identify unproductive patterns, address what’s underneath the conflict, and develop healthier ways of relating.

Through thoughtful guidance and practical, solution-focused strategies, we help you move from miscommunication and frustration toward greater clarity, connection, and mutual understanding—so you can build relationships that are healthier, stronger, and more sustainable.

Youth Counseling

Growing up can be complicated, and kids and teens don’t always have the words to explain what they’re feeling. Stress, frustration, anxiety, family changes, school pressures, and relationship struggles can show up through emotions and behaviors that adults may not always understand.

We provide compassionate, age-appropriate counseling that gives young people a safe space to be heard, make sense of what they’re experiencing, and develop healthy ways to express themselves and manage life’s challenges. Through practical tools and supportive guidance, we help children and teens build emotional awareness, confidence, coping skills, and resilience.

Whether they’re dealing with school stress, friendship challenges, family changes, or simply navigating the ups and downs of growing up, our goal is to help them feel understood, supported, and equipped for what comes next.

Because learning how to navigate life starts long before adulthood.

Addictions Counseling

Addiction and compulsive behaviors can affect far more than the behavior itself—they can disrupt relationships, work, health, finances, and your sense of peace and control. Our addictions counseling provides a supportive, nonjudgmental space to explore patterns that have become difficult to change, whether they involve substance use or other compulsive behaviors.

We work with you to better understand what may be driving these patterns, identify healthier ways to cope, and develop practical strategies for making meaningful changes. Counseling can support individuals who are working toward recovery, maintaining progress, or simply recognizing that a behavior is beginning to interfere with the life they want.

Change takes time, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. With the right support, greater stability, healthier choices, and a life that feels more aligned with who you want to be are possible.

Grief Counseling

Grief can touch every part of life. It may follow the loss of a loved one, beloved pet, friendship, home, career, health, independence, or a sense of who you once were. Some losses are visible to others; others are deeply personal and difficult to explain. Either way, grief can leave you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward.

Our grief counseling provides a compassionate, supportive space to acknowledge what you’ve lost, process the emotions that come with it, and make room for what comes next. We won’t rush your grief or tell you how you should feel. Instead, we’ll walk alongside you as you make sense of your experience, draw on your strengths, and gradually find your footing again.

Healing doesn’t mean forgetting what mattered. It means learning how to carry the loss while continuing to build a meaningful life.

Group Counseling

Sometimes healing feels different when you don’t have to explain yourself to people who already understand. Our therapist-led group counseling sessions provide a supportive, confidential space to connect with others navigating similar experiences—whether you’re working through anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, addiction, or other life challenges.

In a small-group setting, you’ll have opportunities to share, listen, gain perspective, and learn practical ways to navigate difficult emotions and situations. You’ll find connection without judgment, encouragement without pressure, and the reminder that you’re not the only one figuring things out.

You don’t have to navigate a difficult season in isolation. Sometimes, healing begins with finding a community where you feel seen, heard, and understood.
